Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve cooling efficiency of a brake drum by providing air-cooling fins on the outer periphery of a drum brake, and disposing a fan in the vicinity of the brake drum on an axle, which is rotated with the axle to let air flow to the air cooling fin side of the brake drum. CONSTITUTION:Air cooling fins 1 are radially fitted to the outer periphery surface of a brake drum 4 in order to enlarge the surface area of the outer peripheral surface of the drum brake 4, and a fan 2 is radially fixed to a portion of an axle 3 in the vicinity of the brake drum 4. At the time of braking, frictional heat generated by sliding contact between the inner surface of the brake drum 4 and a brake shoe is transmitted to the cooling fins 1 and accompanied by an air flow A sent to the air cooling fins 1 by the fan 2 to lower the temperature of the cooling fins 1, that is, the brake drum 4. Thus, the occurrence of fade phenomenon due to overheating of the brake drum 4 is avoided.
