To provide a light source device, in which the flickers of a lamp due to arc spot movement are suppressed, through improvement in the cooling control method of the lamp, at turning on and starting up of the lamp.
The cooling device of a high-pressure discharge lamp is constituted of an air-cooling fan to air-cool the high-pressure discharge lamp and a power source for controlling a fan output of the air-cooling fan; the power source is so structured that the period Ta of a fan output Va which is higher than a standard fan output V0 and a period Tb of a fan output Vb which is lower than the standard fan output V0 is alternately repeated at a prescribed period, irrespective of the lighting state of the high-pressure discharge lamp, when the high pressure discharge lamp is performing stable lighting.
