PURPOSE: To save energy required for running a cooling and heating apparatus, by shortening the rise time for cooling and heating operation and employing an arrangement enabling to attain uniform temperature distribution in the room to be air- conditioned and also to cool or heat local sections in the room.

CONSTITUTION: Box-like casing 1 is formed with main air diffusing port 15 and subsidiary air diffusing port 6. At the junction of air passage 17 for the main air diffusing port and air passage 18 for the subsidiary air diffusing port, there is provided a fluidic element 19 which is constituted by flow straightening splitter 14 and an air diffusing port of fan casing whose cross section is arranged to be variable. By suitably opening and closing control holes 20, 21 which are disposed in side-by-side reltionship, cooling air or heating air can be issued separately from these holes in different directions or simultaneously from both holes, whereby it is enabled to shorten the rise time for cooling or heating operation and to attain uniform temperature distribution in the room to be air-conditioned. When the room has been heated or cooled to a steady state, either of said control holes 20, 21 is opened or closed and at the same time vane wheel 9 and heat source 12 are operated at a low speed, whereby it is enabled to save energy and attain quiet operation.
