To reduce the power consumption by cooling or heating articles by only a necessary quantity and performing proper-temperature vending.
The automatic vending machine comprises a cooling and heating device 3, a fan 4 which sends air cooled or heated by the cooling and heating device 3, a return duct 5 which is provided at an intermediate part above the rear bottom part of an article storage device 1, and an air duct shield plate 6 having upper and lower openings 6a and 6b at a constant interval above the return duct 5. Consequently, partial cooling and partial heating are carried out so that only the part below the article storage device 1 is held at proper vending temperature and the operation rate of the cooling and heating device 3 is lowered to reduce the power consumption.
