PURPOSE: To uniformly cool over the whole surface of steel materials, by dipping the steel material, under an inclined state, on cooling the steel material by completely dipping it into coolant.
CONSTITUTION: The steel material 13 adhered with the deposit by, for example, hot top frame after ingot making, oxidation film inhibitor, etc. is fixedly put on the cooling stand 12 formed, in a network structure, installed in the water tank 11 and completely dipped into the coolant 14. Then the coolant or air is injected from the injection nozzle 15 provided just under the steel material 13 and the steel material 13 is rapidly cooled stirring the solution 14. Though water vapor is gnerated from the surface of steel material 13 simultaneously therewith, this water vapor floats upward as it is from the upper and side surfaces of steel material 13 but is difficult to float at the bottom surface. Then, the upper surface of stand 12 is inclined and the steel material 13 is made to be of inclined state in the solution 14. Therefore, the water vapor on the bottom surface of steel material 13 is flowed along the bottom surface of steel material 13 together with the flow of coolant or the like from the nozzle 15 and thereafter floats upward. Thus, the steel material is rapidly cooled uniformly over its whole surface.
