To provide a cooling storage compartment which can prevent the occurrence of such a trouble that a cooler and a cold storage medium are supercooled and, as a result, the cooler and medium are broken when a compressor is operated for freezing the cold storage medium.
A controller 24 is provided with a timer and a temperature sensor 80 which detects the temperature of the cold storage medium 13 and executes a cold storage medium freezing mode in which the medium 13 is frozen by means of the cooler 34 by operating the compressor 37 at a preset time and a cold storage medium cooling mode in which the inside of a storage chamber 5 is cooled by utilizing the cooling ice melting action of the medium 13 by stopping the compressor 37. In the cold storage medium freezing mode, the controller 24 stops the compressor 37 when the temperature of the medium 13 detected by means of the sensor 80 reaches a first temperature which is not higher than the freezing temperature of the medium 13 and starts the compressor 37 when the temperature of the medium 13 rises and reaches a second temperature which is also not higher than the freezing temperature thereafter.
