To provide a lighting device for a freezer type show case, a refrigerator type show case and a non-refrigerator type show case having a constitution, in which either a transparent or opaque rod-like or tubular light emitting member is used and light emitted from a light source device is incident at an end surface of a light emitting member, wherein a light source storing box having the light source device stored therein is cooled to prevent any thermal influence from being applied into a case main body.

A circumferential wall of a light source storing box 8 is constituted into a three-layer structure comprising an outer cylinder 81 made of thermal insulating material; an inner cylinder 82 composed of a shielding plate arranged inside the outer cylinder with a predetermined clearance and fixed; and an aeration passage 83 formed with a clearance between the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder. Fresh surrounding air is sucked through a surrounding air inlet 83 under an application of a rotational driving of a cooling fan 11, and flowed in the aeration passage 83. The surrounding air flows from a front end opening 82a into the inner cylinder 82 and is discharged out of a rear end opening 82b to the outside region. With such an arrangement as above, whatever a high temperature of inside part of the inner cylinder 82 having the light source device 9 stored therein may be attained, the surface of the outer cylinder 81 can be kept at a substantial surrounding air temperature.
