To provide a coordinate input device and a coordinate detection method by which power consumption can be reduced.
The coordinate input device 1 has an electrode sheet 10 having a conductive layer body 11 on the back of an operation surface 10A, a resistor substrate 30 with a resistor 33 formed on the surface, and a spacer 20 provided between the electrode sheet 10 and the resistor substrate 30, wherein one end of the resistor is connected to the voltage Vcc of the power source Vcc, and the conductive layer body 11 is connected to a ground potential through a reference resistor 40. Although the conductive layer body 11 is brought into contact with the resistor 33 to output voltage Vo when the conductive layer body 11 is pressed, the conductive layer body 11 is separated from the resistor 33 when the conductive layer body 11 is not pressed down. Consequently, it is possible to reduce power consumption when the conductive layer body 11 is not pressed down.
