To provide a method for manufacturing a copolyester which has a good moldability, a low foreign matter content, and an excellent electrostatic adhesiveness.
This copolyester is composed of terephthalic acid or its ester-forming derivative, ethylene glycol, and neopentyl glycol as main constituents, the ratio of neopentyl glycol to the total glycol being 1-40 mol%, and contains an alkaline earth metal compound (M) and a phosphorus compound (P) in such quantities as to satisfy inequalities (1) and (2): 0.05≤M≤0.40 (mol%)(1) and 1.0≤M/P≤3.5 (molar ratio)(2) and the amount of particles having at least 10 μm in the polymer is not more than a specific number. In the method for manufacturing the copolyester, the alkaline earth metal compound is added when the oligomer acid value is 700 eq/ton or lower.
