PURPOSE: To copolymerize ethylene with an α-olefin easily and inexpensively in high activity, by using a catalyst comprising a composition obtained by copulverizing a Mg halide with a liquid organic compound and contacting the product with a Ti compound, etc., and an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst component (A) is obtained by washing with, e.g., n-hexane a composition obtained by copulverizing 100pts.wt. magnesium halide (a) (e.g., MgCl2) with 0.1W70pts.wt. liquid organic compound (b) having no electron-donating group [e.g., (un)saturated hydrocarbon] at 0W100°C for 1W100hr and contacting the product with a Ti and/or V compounds (C) (e.g., TiCl4) at room temperature to 200°C. C2H4 is copolymerized with an α-olefin (e.g., C3H6) at 0W150°C and a pressure of an atmospheric pressure to 100kg/cm2 in the presence of a catalyst comprising component A and 1W500mol, per mol of Ti of component A, catalyst component B comprising an organoaluminum compound of the formula (wherein R is a 1W12 C hydrocarbon group, X is a halogen, alkoxy or H and m is 1W3).
