PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of the performance of a copper base sliding material due to the sulfuric acid formed when a lubricating oil contg. a sulfur additive from being deteriorated.

CONSTITUTION: Silver metal is added to Cu by 0.1-5%. To increase the sliding characteristic, (a) ≤10wt.% Sn, ≤0.5wt.% P, ≤5wt.% Al, ≤1wt.% Si, ≤5wt.% Mn, ≤5wt.% Cr, ≤5wt. % Ni and/or ≤30wt.% ZN, (b) ≤30wt.% Pb and/or Bi in total and (c) ≤20wt.% Al2O3, SiO2, Si3N4, Fe2P, Fe3P Fe2B, FeB, NiB, BN and/or SiC in total are further added.
