PURPOSE: To perform a continuous copying at the maximum speed conformed to size by judging a rear end of transfer paper through a detection signal out of a sensor, and on the basis of the judged result, deciding the paper feeding timing of the next transfer paper to be fed from a manual tray or universal cassette.

CONSTITUTION: While transfer paper fed out of a manual tray 37 or universal cassettes 34 - 36 is being conveyed on a paper conveying route, first of all, a paper rear end judging means B judges the paper rear end by a detecting signal out of a sensor A (resist sensor 23). Next, a paper feeding timing decision means C decides the paper feed timing of the next transfer paper to be fed from the manual tray 37 or the like on the basis of the judged result. Accordingly, when the transfer paper being relatively short in the paper feeding direction or the like is fed out of the manual tray 37 or the like, such a time when the rear end is reached to the sensor A is anyway hastened, so that paper feed timing of the next transfer paper is deservedly hastened, thus a time required for continuous copying operations is sharply reduced and, what is more, a copying time is shortened as a whole.
