PURPOSE: To correct unrecognisable characters efficiently by displaying the readout result of an input character to specify a position to be corrected, and inputting a handwritten correct character to the specified position.

CONSTITUTION: The device concerns to the correcting method for the readout result of an optical character reader. The result of a readout by a character readout part 1 is displayed on a display 3 through a control part 2. According to the display on the display 3, an operator points out a point to be corrected on the screen of the display 3 or position detector 4 placed on a desk with the index finger of the left hand and inputs a correcting character from an input device 5 with a pen held in the right hand. The input device 5 allows a handwritten character from a tablet, digitizer, etc., to be inputted directly and the operator writesn the correcting character directly for input. This correcting character inputted as mentioned above is corrected to the character to be corrected which is read by the character readout part 1 through the controller 2.
