Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improvement method of a fatigue life of a structure capable of suppressing decline of the fatigue life which is caused by a stopper hole for the purpose of measuring residual stress by a piercing method.SOLUTION: A method improves a fatigue life of a structure having a steel member 10 opened with a stopper hole 11 for measuring a residual stress by a piercing process, and includes a step of applying a peening process for hitting with a pin to a bottom face 11a of a stopper hole. In the step of applying the peening process to the bottom face 11a, a mode of pressing a region positioned at the bottom face 11a of the stopper hole toward a depth direction and toward the outside from a center of the stopper hole 11 can be adopted. The mode may preferably include a step of applying the peening process to a boundary between a side face 11b of the stopper hole and a surface 10a of the steel member. In the peeing process, the use of a pin having a diameter equal to or less than 98% of the stopper hole 11 and a radius of curvature of the top end equal to or less than 300% is preferable.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1C
