Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an effective corrosion preventing effect for a metal material of a device and to realize an industrial process to handle org. sulfonic acid by using copper ion as a corrosion inhibitor to be coexistent with the org. sulfonic acid to be handled in the device.

CONSTITUTION: Copper ion is made to coexist in an aq. soln. containing org. sulfonic acid in such a device that the org. sulfonic acid is handled, especially, in a device to produce alcohols by hydration of olefins using the org. sulfonic acid as a catalyst. By this method, the corrosion rate of the metal material of the device can be largely decreased. Thus, a process to handle an org. sulfonic acid soln. can be performed by using an inexpensive corrosion inhibitor and inexpensive material such as stainless steel without causing corrosion.
