Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a corrosion resistance treatment method for a fused carbonate fuel cell separator, having the capability of preventing thermal deformation and holding a corrosion resistance function over a long term even in high temperature carbonate.
SOLUTION: The stainless steel base material of a separator is plated with nickel to thickness between 5μm and 20μm and a thin aluminum film of thickness between 5μm and 20μm is formed on the nickel plating layer (step 110). Then, fine ceramic powder is applied to the thin aluminum film (step 120). Thereafter, a nickel-aluminum metallic compound is formed on the jointed surface of the base material, the nickel and the aluminum via a diffusion process in thermal treatment (step 130) where temperature is raised to a level between 660°C and 700°C at a temperature rise rate of approximately (1-3°C)/minute, the temperature is then raised to a level between 900°C and 1,000°C at a temperature rise rate of approximately (1-3°C)/minute in hydrogen atmosphere, and this temperature level is held for 2 to 10 hours. The separator of a fused carbonate fuel cell is thereby treated for corrosion resistance.
