Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved corrosion resistant adhesive sol-gel.SOLUTION: Aspects described herein relate to a sol-gel that is the reaction product of a hydroxy organosilane, a metal alkoxide, an acid stabilizer and a corrosion inhibitor. The hydroxy organosilane is represented by chemical formula (I) in the figure, where R is selected from alkyl, cycloalkyl, ether, or aryl. The acid stabilizer is such that the molar ratio of the acid stabilizer to the metal alkoxide comprising zirconium (IV) is 1:1 or more. The sol-gel has pH from about 3 to about 4. The corrosion inhibitor is a thiadiazole having one or more thiol moieties represented by chemical formula R1--Sn--X--R2, where R1 is an organic group, n is a positive integer, X is a sulfur or metal atom, and R2 is an organic group.SELECTED DRAWING: None
