Abstract:
PURPOSE: To form a hard layer excellent in the corrosion resistance, the wear resistance and the peeling resistance by forming a layer whose concentration of hard TiC is gradually reduced from the surface to the inner part on the surface of a steel member made of a high carbon steel, and executing the quenching and tempering treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Various kinds of steel member containing 0.7wt.% C are placed in a furnace together with 200-mesh powder of Ti-Fe alloy consisting of 70wt.% Ti and 30wt.% Fe, and 70 pts.wt. inter-alumina powder, 15 pts.wt. NH4Cl powder and 0.5 pts.wt. penetrant, heated at the temperature of e.g. 1100°C for 12 hours while flowing Ar gas, and Ti diffusion and penetration is executed, and then, the quenching and tempering treatment are executed in the vacuum or in an inert gas atmosphere. Steel parts having the Ti penetrated layer wherein TiC concentration in its surface is 45-80 pts.wt. in terms of Ti with a micro-Vickers hardness of 2000-3700mHV and the Ti diffusion/penetration layer wherein the gradient of TiC concentration is reduced toward the surface of steel parts formed thereon by totally 10-60μm thickness and excellent peeling resistance are manufactured.
