PURPOSE: To obtain the titled zirconium alloy having excellent corrosion resistance, particularly nodular corrosion-resistant characteristics by incorporating Y, Mg, Ca, Ce, etc., onto the surface layer of a Zr alloy having specific compsn. contg. Ni, Fe, Cr, Sn and Nb.
CONSTITUTION: At least one kind among Y, Mg, Ca and Ce is incorporated at least into the surface layer of a Zr alloy contg., by weight, ≤5% Ni, ≤5% Fe, ≤1% Cr, ≤1.5% Sn and ≤2.5% Nb. As the method for incorporating said Y, etc., thereto, ion pouring, vapor deposition, sputtering, ion mixing, etc., can be executed to concentrate said metals into the surface layer. In this way, the surface oxidizing layer is converted into cubic system without impairing the neutron absorbing capacity within the alloy, by which the titled Zr alloy having excellent corrosion resistance, particularly nodular corrosion resistance is obtd.
