PURPOSE: To obtain the title inhibitor, containing 12-hydroxykaurenol as an essential ingredient and useful for treating diseases caused by secretory abnor mality of adrenocortical hormone, e.g. sex hormone-dependent malignant tumor, such as prostatic cancer or mammary cancer, Cushing's syndrome, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A corticosteroid production inhibitor containing 12- hydroxykaurenol expressed by formula I as an essential ingredient. The com pound expressed by formula I is synthesized by producing 12-hydroxykaurene expressed by formula III from (-)-kaurene, expressed by formula II as a starting substance and available from SUGI (Japanese ceder) leaves in a large amount and using the resultant product as a raw material. The title inhibitor is prepared by formulating the essential ingredient expressed by formula I together with a suitable excipient into a dosage form suitable for oral or parenteral administra tion according to a conventional method. The daily dose of the essential ingredi ent expressed by formula I for human is 0.1W100mg/kg, preferably 10W30mg/kg.
