To reflect an object in natural color by producing a mirror in such a manner that a colored film is formed on one side of a plate glass, the colored film is coated by a metal deposited film, and the colored film is produced by a sol-gel method so that characteristic of the colored film is set as desired to obtain a correct absorption ability corresponding to the characteristic of the plate glass.
A transparent plate glass 1, which has been produced by a float method and its one side is coated by a masking agent, is immersed in a sol liquid of organic solvent in which high purity silica solid of several % by weight and a slight amount of organic dye are distributed, and the glass is lifted at several tens cm/min. The masking agent is removed, a thin colored film 2 is formed on the glass surface by sintering it at several hundreds °C, then an aluminum deposited film 3 is formed on the colored film 2 to obtain a cosmetic mirror. Although absorption ability of the colored film 2 is not limited, at near 500 to 550 nm, several % absorption ability is preferred, -1 to 5% absorption ability is more preferred, and -2 to 4% absorption ability is more preferred.
