PURPOSE: To obtain a cosmetic for the scalp and hair of the head, containing a local anesthetic agent such as lidocaine or cocaine, capable of remarkably reducing the occurrence of pruritus in the scalp without imparting squeakiness or stickiness to the hair of the head.

CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic for the scalp or hair of the head contains a local anesthetic agent having actions on the mitigation of pruritus and irritancy and is excellent in antipruritic effects without imparting squeakiness or stickiness to the hair of the head. Lidocaine, mepivacaine, propitocaine, dibucaine, etc., are cited as an amide type and cocaine, procaine, chloroprocaine, tetracaine, etc., are cited as an ester type. Among them, dibucaine hydrochloride is especially preferred in aspects of no manifestation of side effects. The cosmetic for the scalp and hair of the head can suitably be used as a shampoo, a rinse, a treatment, a conditioner, a hair tonic and growing agent, a hairdressing, etc.
