To provide a means to modify an appearance, especially optical effects of skin and/or semi-mucous membrane.

As an agent for modifying the appearance of skin and/or semi- mucous membrane, a composition comprising a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone an a 10-40C alkene is cosmetically used in a cosmetic composition containing a physiologically acceptable medium. The copolymer is preferably a copolymer produced from vinylpyrrolidone with an alkene selected from pentadecene, hexadecene, heptadecene, octadecene, nonadecene, eicosene, docosene and triacontene, particularly, a copolymer selected from PVP/hexadecene copolymer, PVP/eicosene copolymer and tricontanyl PVP.
