PURPOSE: To obtain a cosmetic effective for activating the cells of skin, improving chapped skin and beautifying the skin by treating plum juice with a pectinase, collecting a fraction having a molecular weight lower than a specific level by ultrafiltration, adsorbing the fraction to a cation exchange resin and using the adsorbed fraction as a cosmetic component.
CONSTITUTION: Polysaccharides such as pectin in plum juice are decomposed with a pectinase such as sucrase, fractions having a molecular weight of ≥20,000 are removed from the juice by ultrafiltration membrane and the juice is treated with a cation exchange resin to remove large amounts of sugars and neutral substances existing in the juice. The substance adsorbed to the resin is eluted with ammonia water having a concentration of about 2N and concentrated in vacuum or freeze-dried to obtain the objective adsorbed component. The adsorbed component is dissolved in warm water and added in an amount of 0.025-0.25wt.% to a cosmetic. The cosmetic may be properly compounded with conventional cosmetic components.
