PURPOSE: To provide a cosmetic containing a modified sunflower oil having an iodine value lowered below a specific level, having excellent oxidation stability and resistant to change of smell of cosmetic and discoloration of compounded colorant with time without deteriorating the moistening feeling to the skin.
CONSTITUTION: The objective cosmetic is compounded with a sunflower oil having an iodine value of ≤100 (preferably 60W100). The above sunflower oil can be produced by decreasing the amount of double bond of a conventional sunflower oil by modification and a cosmetic having improved oxidation stability can be prepared by compounding said modified sunflower oil. The modification of the oil to decrease the iodine value to ≤100 can be carried out most effectively and economically by plant breeding or chemical treatment. For example, it can be achieved by spontaneous mutation, cross-fertilization or artificial mutation caused by sprouting a seed of sunflower immersed in a mutagenic agent such as dimethylsulfate, etc.
