PURPOSE: To obtain a cosmetic having improved moisture retention, shelf stability, low-temperature stability, non-crytallization, perfume retention and antimicrobial action, providing proper viscosity, moist, smooth and refreshing feeling in use, containing 3-methyl-1,3-butylene glycol.

CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic in the form of cream, toilet lotion, face cleaning cream, eau de Cologne, foundation, shampoo, treatment, pack, lipstick, toothpaste, etc., containing 3-methyl-1,3-butylene glycol (MBD). Since MBD has extremely low toxicity and properly suppressed hygroscopicity, prevents greasiness of cosmetic and has large effects on impartment of moist feeling in use. Since a cosmetic containing MBD has good spread especially to skin and hair, a small amount of the cosmetic can be uniformly and readily applied.
