PURPOSE: To prepare the subject cosmetic composition, containing a diorganopolysiloxane having 2-hydroxybenzophenone functional groups, especially as an ultraviolet exposure agent, and excellent in protection of skin and hair. CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic composition comprises a diorganopolysiloxane represented by formula II R is an alkyl, phenyl or 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl and at least 80% of groups R are methyl; B is R or A which is 2- hydroxybenzophenone represented by formula I [X is H or alkyl; (p) is 1-10]; (r) is 0-200; (s) is 0-50; at least one of groups B is A when (s) is 0} and formula III (u) and (t) are each 0-20; [(t)+(u)] is >=3}. The composition is capable of manifesting good exposure characteristics within a wide wavelength range and further good cosmetic characteristics and is chemically and photochemically stable without damaging skin and hair.
