To provide a counter electrode having outstanding electrode characteristics that a reduction reaction reducing an oxidant into a reductant can be proceeded quickly, where the oxidant and reductant form a redox pair in an electrolyte, and a dye-sensitized solar cell which is equipped with the counter electrode and can obtain high energy conversion efficiency.
A counter electrode CE1 comprises at least a substrate 6 in a plate shape and a porous film 5 made of a conductive material formed on the one surface of the substrate 6, where the conductive material exhibits catalytic activity which accelerates the reduction reaction from the oxidant making up the redox pair to the reductant making up the redox pair. A dye-sensitized solar cell 20 comprises a semiconductor electrode 2 having light transparency and including dye of light sensitization, an electrolyte layer E made of an electrolyte including at least a species of the redox pair, and the counter electrode CE where the semiconductor electrode 2 and the counter electrode CE1 face each other through the electrolyte layer E.
