Abstract:

PURPOSE: To heat residual cinder in a blast furnace and easily discharge it from the furnace by supplying Al, Mg, Ca, etc. or the metals and iron oxide from a tuyere in case the hearth of the furnace is cooled to make discharge of the cinder difficult owing to lowering of fluidity of the cinder due to a fall in temp.

CONSTITUTION: While a blast furnace is in operation or out of blasting, it occasionally happens that the hearth of the furnace is cooled to make discharge of residual cinder from the furnace difficult owing to lowering of fluidity of the cinder. At this time, a metal having a great affinity for oxygen, e.g. Al, Mg, Ca, etc. is blown from tuyere 2 in the form of fine grains, lumps or liquid. The metal may be blown together with sintered ore, FeO or Fe2O3 after pelletizing if necessary. The metal such as Al induces thermit reaction along with FeO and MnO in the cinder and Fe2O3, etc. in the sintered ore blown, generating heat of very high calorie. The cooled cinder is heated with the heat to be highly fluidized, and it is easily discharged from the furnace.
