Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized coupler for streetcars and light rail vehicles.SOLUTION: A coupler comprises at least first gimbals 31, 32 for defining a pivoting shaft mechanism secured to a mounting mechanism 41 which is fitted to a frame member of a vehicle, the pivoting mechanism being secured to a buffer column 39, a portion of which projects on the opposite side of the pivoting mechanism relative to the mounting mechanism 41, thus making the buffer column 39 movable relative to the mounting mechanism 41 in at least two degrees of freedom. The buffer column 39 defines a free end 42 which can be separated from the mounting mechanism 41 and secured to another member. The buffer column 39 also includes: both a reversible buffer member for attenuating a buffer force and a tractional force acting between the free end 42 and the mounting mechanism 41 and an irreversible buffer member for attenuating the buffer force acting between the free end 42 and the mounting mechanism 41. The reversible buffer member and irreversible buffer member overlap along at least a part of their length the buffer column 39 which overlaps at least one pivoting mechanism.
