Abstract:
PURPOSE:To couple a planar optical waveguide and an optical fiber with high accuracy by holding a substrate on which the planar optical waveguide which can hold the center of the optical fiber and an optical axis of the planar optical waveguide on the same plane by a guide groove is formed, by the guide groove and determining its position. CONSTITUTION:In about the center in the longitudinal direction of a groove 6 of a V-shaped cross section formed on a base 1, a substrate 2 on which a planar optical waveguide 3 is formed is held so that the surface on which the planar optical waveguide 3 is formed becomes upward. Before and behind the substrate 2 held in the V-shaped groove 6, a cylindrical optical fiber holder 4 for fixing and holding an optical fiber 5 in the center is placed so as to come into contact with the substrate 2. In this state, an optical axis of the planar optical waveguide 3 and an optical axis of each optical fiber 5 are constituted so as to coincide with each other, and fixed by a resin, etc. In such a way, the planar optical waveguide 3 and the optical fiber 5 can be coupled and fixed with high accuracy.
