To provide a cover device for a luggage compartment of an automobile, capable of preventing an opening for taking luggage in and out from becoming narrow when a rear gate is opened and a cover member is moved upward.
The cover device 23 for a luggage compartment of an automobile is provided with: a cover member 25 extending from forward to rearward of the luggage compartment 3 and comprised of a tonneau cover 25a covering the luggage compartment and a cover front end 25b attached to the tonneau cover 25a on the vehicle body rear side and a pair of supports 49 installed on a pair of rear pillars 13, 15 of a vehicle body and supporting a locking piece 33 of the cover front end 25b to overhang-support the cover front end 25b in the front/rear direction of the vehicle body. The support 49 has an upper support portion 41 positioned above the luggage compartment opening 5 as determined and the upper support portion 41 supports the locking piece 33 of the cover front end 25b so that the cover front end 25b faces upward more than horizontal position.
