PURPOSE: To provide the covered button which is made of a synthetic resin, is formed by securely fitting a rear seat plate to an upper button and surely holds a covering piece, such as cloth, without disengagement and the apparatus for production which can efficiently assemble such a covered button.

CONSTITUTION: The top surface 11 and lateral peripheral part 12 of the upper button 10 are covered with a covering sheet 15 and the peripheral edge of the covering sheet 15 is turned back to the rear side and is housed into an open recessed part 16. The rear seat plate 19 made of copolymer type acetal resin is inserted to the shaft part 14 of the upper button 10. An annular groove 20 of a V shape in section is inscribed by cold mechanical stamping at the end face of the shaft part 14. The peripheral edge part of the shaft part 14 on the outer side from the groove 20 is deformed and crushed and the peripheral edge part of the rear seat plate 19 is tightly pressed to the inner peripheral surface of the lateral peripheral part 12 of the upper button 10. The peripheral edge part of the covering sheet 15 is surely clamped and held between the upper button 10 and the rear seat plate 19, by which the disengagement thereof is prevented.
