To reduce the size and weight of an internal combustion engine by reducing the length in the width direction of the internal combustion engine, to reduce the number of components and assembly manhours, and to secure reliability on the strength of a first gear.
This crank angle detection device for an internal combustion engine includes a crankshaft 25 arranged in the engine, and a crank angle sensor 41 for detecting the rotation angle of the crankshaft as a crank angle. The crank angle detection device for an internal combustion engine is structured such that a primary drive gear 32 is arranged rotationally integrally with a crank weight 38A of the crankshaft 25; the primary drive gear transmits power to an adjacent primary driven gear and includes cutout parts 42 in partial teeth; the crank angle sensor 41 detects the crank angle by detecting the primary drive gear 32 on the basis of the cutout parts 42; and the tooth 46 including the cutout part 42 meshes with the primary driven gear at a phase avoiding a phase at which maximum combustion pressure is generated in all cylinders of the engine.
