Abstract:

To provide a crank shaft having more excellent quenching crack resistance compared with the conventional one and also having high fatigue strength, and to provide its production method.

The crank shaft having a quench-hardened layer at least on the surface of a crank pin has a component composition comprising, by mass, 0.35 to 0.7% C, 0.80% Si, 0.2 to 2.0% Mn, 0.25% Al, 0.005 to 0.1% Ti, 0.05 to 0.6% Mo, 0.0003 to 0.006% B, 0.06% S, 0.020% P and 2.5% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and the crank shaft has a surface compressive residual stress of 600 MPa at the bottom R part of the crank pin.
