PURPOSE: To prevent the seizure of disk roll-shaped guide shoes and a rolled stock and to effectively prevent the slip between both as well by executing the supply of a seizure preventive agent while specifically maintaining the surface temp. of the guide shoes.

CONSTITUTION: The seizure preventive agent is supplied to maintain the surface temp. of the disk roll-shaped guide shoes 10 at 50 to 300°C at the time of executing the piercing and thickness decrease elongating rolling of the seamless steel pipe by a cross helical rolling mill having rolling rolls 11 and the disk roll- shaped guide shoes 10. The rapid formation of dry films on the surface of the guide shoes is possible in this way and the effective function of the dry films is possible as well. The seizure preventive agent consists essentially of a water soluble boron compd. and a film forming agent. The seizure preventive agent sprayed onto the surfaces of the guide shoes is instantaneously and securely fixed to the surfaces of the shoes 10 by the heat possessed by the shoes, by which the dry films are formed. The films prevent the shoes 10 being brought into metallic contact with the rolled stock 12.
