Title:
CROSSLINKING TREATMENT OF VINYL CHLORIDE/OLEFIN COPOLYMER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57172909
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To crosslink a vinyl chloride/olefin copolymer by a simple method, by grafting a silane compound onto a copolymer and then contacting the resulting graft copolymer with water in the presence of silanol condensation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A coplymer of vinyl chloride and an olefin (e.g., ethylene, propylene) is mixed with a silane compound (e.g., vinyltrimethoxysilane) and a free- radical generator (e.g., dicumyl peroxide) and the mixture is heated to graft the silane compound onto the above copolymer. Then, the resulting graft copolymer is crosslinked by contacting it with water in the presence of a silanol condensation catalyst (e.g., dibutyltin laurate).
