PURPOSE: To obtain a higher display quality by deciding whether or not the 1- character dot formed on the raster continues via the output signals given from the character generator and then setting the output signal lower than the dot existing singly based on the result of the above decision.

CONSTITUTION: The decision circuit decides whether or not the dot forming one character continues on the raster by looking at the output signals given from the character generator. And in case the dot continues, this signal is sent to the video signal control circuit and the high-level output is lowered down to secure the intermediate brightness. Thus the luminance is stopped down to secure the brightness for both the lateral and longitudinal lines in case the CRT is used, thus obtaining the screen of higher display quality. For this purpose, the circuit is constituted with character generator 11, decision circuit 12, video signal control circuit 13, parallel-series conversion circuit 14 and CRT15. As a result, the difference of brightness is reduced between the lateral and longitudinal lines even in case the brightness is stopped down, thus ensuring an easy-to-see screen.
