Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent pollution of molten metal as caused by a contact with insulating material filled in slits while achieving better magnetic permeation into a crucible.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of slits 14 are formed on a surrounding wall of a body 12 formed in a shape of a bottomed cylinder at a specified interval in the circumference. The slits are opened inside and outside the body 12 diametrically while being extended axially in a specified length and at a portion where the slits 14 are formed, the body 12 is built up with a plurality of segments 16 divided circumferentially. The respective slits 14 are filled with insulating material 18 such as fireproof ceramics so as to keep the segments 16 insulated from each other. The slits 14 are each shaped in a wedge with an opening width thereof increasing toward the diameter-wise outside from the diameter wise inside in the transverse surface thereof. In other words, a relationship of A<B ii given between the opening width A of the diameter wise inside and the opening width B of the diameter wise outside in the slits 14.
