PURPOSE: To reduce the mixing of impurities from a crucible in a melting raw material, to permit the melting in which the purity of the melting raw material is retained. and to reduce the erosion on the inside face of the crucible by forming at least the inside face of the crucible of boron nitride.
CONSTITUTION: As for a crucible for melting vanadium and its compounds, as the main body of the crucible to be formed into a pan retaining the molten metal of vanadium pentoxide or the like, stock such as oxides and graphite which are relatively low-cost is used. The inside face to be brought into contact with the molten metal of vanadium pentoxide or the like is formed of baron nitride which is not (or is hard to be) brought into reaction with the above molten metal. In this way, the melting retaining the purity of the melting raw material and that at low-cost can simultaneously be executed. Furthermore, the durability of the crucible can be improved.
