Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a polyether useful as a material in electrical and mechanical fields, having low melting point, excellent moldability, glass transition temperature and high thermal decomposition temperature by reacting a specific dihalogen compound with a biphenol in the presence of an alkali metal compound in a solvent. CONSTITUTION:A dihalogen compound [e.g 2,6-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)pyridine] shown by formula I is reacted with 4,4'-biphenol preferably in an equimolar ratio in the presence of an alkali metal compound (preferably sodium carbonate) in a neutral polar solvent (e.g. DMF) preferably at 180-330 deg.C for 1-5 hours to give the objective new polyether having a repeating unit shown by formula II and >=0.3dl/g reduced viscosity in 0.2g/dl solution using p-chlorophenol as a solvent.
