Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound composed of a number of acicular crystals radially extending from a common nucleation point, having high bulk density and excellent processability and useful as a β-lactamase inhibitor, etc., by crystallizing or recrystallizing at a specific temperature using a reverse precipitation method.
SOLUTION: The objective crystalline potassium clavulanate composed of a number of acicular crystals radially extending from a common nucleation point to form a crystal rosette form an having a bulk density of 0.2-0.6g/cm3 is produced by adding potassium clavulanate to a mixture of methanol, glacial acetic acid and water at 18-20°C, stirring at 18-20°C for 10min, confirming that the pH of the mixture is 6.4-6.9, adding active carbon to the solution, stirring for 20min, filtering into a tape funnel using a filter aid on a filtering funnel, dripping the filtrate into 3:1 isopropanol/acetone mixture at 8-15°C to obtain a suspension, precipitating a crystal from the suspension by a reverse precipitation method comprising the stirring at 8-15°C for 1hr followed by the stirring at 0-5°C for 1hr, separating the crystal by filtration and drying the product.
