To provide Cu-containing steel in which high temperature embrittlement caused by Cu can be prevented even without adding Ni which is expensive and easily causes scale flaws, and which has excellent surface properties, and to provide its production method.
The Cu-containing steel has a composition comprising, by mass, ≥0.06% Cu, ≤0.003% C and ≥0.02% T.O, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities; wherein, T.O (total oxygen) is the total of oxygen present as FeO based inclusions in the steel and oxygen dissolved in solid iron. In the method of producing Cu-containing steel, at the time of producing the Cu-containing steel by continuous casting, the casting is performed in such a manner that the concentration of F.O (free oxygen) at least in a tundish is held to ≥0.02 mass%.
