To provide a cubic aluminum titanium nitride coating and a method for manufacturing the same.
A coated cutting tool has hard coating including at least one aluminum titanium nitride layer having a B1 cubic phase single layer structure and composition (AlxTi1-x)N wherein x is in the range of about 0.46 to about 0.52 mol. The hard coating has residual stress in the range of about -0.4 to about -3 GPa when measured by an XRD Sin2ψ method and a crystal orientation characterized by a ratio of (200) peak intensity to (111) peak intensity by X-ray diffraction being in the range of about 1 to about 14. The aluminum titanium nitride layer is preferably in the range of about 15 to about 50 nanometers of an average crystallite size. The method for manufacturing the coated cutting tool is also disclosed.
