To obtain a curable composition for producing a cured material having high Abbe number, exhibiting low water-absorption and polymerization shrinkage and free from color and useful as an optical material such as eyeglass lens by including a specific (meth)acrylate-based polymerizable monomer, etc., and a styryl-based polymerizable monomer.
The objective curable composition is produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a sulfur-containing (meth)acrylate-based polymerizable monomer of formula I (R1 to R3 are each H or methyl; (n) is 1-10) [e.g. bis(methacryloyloxyethyl) sulfide] with (B) 1-100 pts.wt. of an epoxy-containing (meth)acrylate-based polymerizable monomer of formula II ((R4 and R7 are each H or methyl; R5 and R6 are each a 1-4C alkylene or a group of formula III; (p) and (q) are each 0 or 1), (C) 0-500 pts.wt. of a (meth)acrylate-based polymerizable monomer other than the components A and B and (D) 0-200 pts.wt. of a styryl-based polymerizable monomer. The refractive index of the cured material of the composition is preferably ≥1.57.
