PURPOSE: To obtain a curable coating excellent in cladding fastness, etc., by incorporating a polyurea of a reaction product of a polyisocyanate, ammonia, etc., and a compound having a plurality of functional groups which are reactive with urea groups.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A polyisocyanate (e.g., isophorone diiso-cyanate) and (B) ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, a primary amine (e.g. butylamine) or water are mixed and reacted to form a polyurea. Then, the resulting polyurea and a compound having a plurality of functional groups which are reactive with the urea groups on the polyurea (e.g. a melamine-formaldehyde resin) are incorporated as the essential components and, if necessary, a solvent (e.g. methyl ethyl ketone), a curing catalyst (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid), etc., are further compounded to prepare a curable coating composition. The resulting coating composition has many advantages of a polyurea and also suitable cladding fastness.
