PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable resin composition which can give a coating film improved in weathering resistance, scratch resistance and resistance to sealer cracking by copolymerizing a polycarboxylic acid with a specified epoxy- containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an epoxy-free ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
SOLUTION: Twenty (20) to 80wt.% polycarboxylic acid prepared by copolymerizing a carboxy-containing and carboxy-free ethylenically unsaturated monomers with each other and having an acid value of 25-300mgKOH/g (in terms of the solid matter) and a number-average molecular weight of 500-20,000 is copolymerized with 10-60wt.% epoxy-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer of the formula (wherein (r) is H or methyl; X is a 2-6 C (un) saturated hydrocarbon group; Y is a 4-6 C linear alkylene; (m) is 1-6; and (n) is 0-6) and 40-90wt.% epoxy-free ethyklenically unsaturated monomer to obtain a curable resin composition containing 20-80wt.% polyepoxide having an epoxy equivalent of 10-800 and a number-average molecular weight of 500-20,000.
