To prevent the leakage of current and stabilize the characteristics by chamfering a peripheral part of a chip on the mounting face side so as to be slanted toward outside to form a rectangular mesa.
A chip 10 is bonded with a conductive resin adhesive 23 on an anode 25 on an assemble substrate 24 through an electrode 18 on the mounting face side. Excessive resin is collected in a chamfered section 15 to prevent it from creeping up on a side face of the chip. As a result, there is no leakage of current and thereby the deterioration in characteristics can be avoided. On the surface of the chamfered section 15, an isulating film 16 of a specified thickness and electrodes 17, 18 are formed. Since current is supplied also from the electrodes, current can be efficiently supplied. Moreover, the insulating action of the insulating film 16 prevents the leakage of current in the chamfered section 15. Consequently, a current constricting type LED having stable characteristics with no leakage of current and a light emitting device using the LED can be obtained.
