PURPOSE: To obtain a current limiter having no resistance loss, by stacking a plurality of elements having superconducting characteristic through metal layers and constituting a superconductor, then applying predetermined pressure in the stacking direction and leading out terminals from the opposite ends.
CONSTITUTION: A superconductor 17 having one end contacting with a terminal 15 comprises a plurality of disc elements 18 which exhibit superconductivity at a predetermined temperature. Metal layers 18a, 18b are formed on the opposite faces of the element 18. The other end of a superconductor 17 and a terminal 14 are connected through a flexible conductor 19, and predetermined pressure contacting load is applied through a spring 20 between respective elements 18. Since the superconductor 17 is under superconducting state for current level lower than rated level, resistance loss and reactance are limited to quite levels. When fault current exceeds over the critical level, the superconductor 17 does not exhibit superconductivity but exhibit high resistance thus exhibiting current limiting effect.
