Abstract:
PURPOSE: To dispense with the installation of a breaker for shutting off current on the outside of a current limiting breaker so as to make the current limiting breaker compact by installing a shut-off part in an arc running path, introducing the running arc into shut-off part to shut off the current.
CONSTITUTION: A foot of an arc 6 on a resistor 1 side of the arc 6 which runs between the resistors 1, 1' is moved onto a central electrode 21, and a foot of an arc 6 on a resistor 1' side reaches a cylindrical electrode 22 by passing over a gap 23. Current flows from a main terminal 2 to the resistor 1, the central electrode 21, the arc 6, the cylindrical electrode 22, a coil 24, the resistor 1', and a main terminal 2'. Electromagnetic force working between a magnetic field produced by current flowing in the coil 24 and current flowing in the arc 6 functions in the arc 6. By this electromagnetic force, the arc 6 rotates between the central electrode 21 and the cylindrical electrode 22 around the central electrode 21, and is cooled by the environmental atmosphere. As a result, the arc 6 disappears in the zero point of current and current is shut off.
